👨💻It was an absolute pleasure to engage with a brilliant group of university students at the recent 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 held at our Aquila campus in Hyderabad. These workshops are a cornerstone of our University Research Alliance Micron (URAM) program, fostering essential connections between industry and academia. Workshops like these are instrumental in raising awareness about the exciting, long-term career opportunities in the memory and storage industry. The students also gained valuable insights into the cutting-edge work being done by our Micron India teams. We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response, receiving over 200 applications, and selecting some outstanding students to participate in the workshop. Our Micron executives joined President Biden and other leaders this week in Syracuse, New York to celebrate Micron’s plans to invest approximately $50 billion in gross capex for U.S. domestic leading-edge memory manufacturing through 2030, supported by the newly announced $6.1 billion in funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. These grants and additional state and local incentives will support the construction of one leading-edge memory manufacturing fab to be co-located with the company’s existing leading-edge R&D facility in Boise, Idaho and the construction of two leading-edge memory fabs in Clay, New York.
International Museum Day is upon us and we are excited to highlight one of the ways we increase access to STEM education in our communities! We work with local museums and science centers near our Micron Technology sites to enable them to provide STEM activities in the heart of their communities. In honor of hashtag#InternationalMuseumDay, we celebrate a few museums who are helping to inspire children from around the globe to pursue a future in STEM! In Germany, our grants empower the Deutsches Museum to offer "Tech and Tinkering" Workshops, engaging underrepresented and disadvantaged communities in STEM activities beyond the traditional classroom setting. In partnership with the Science Centre Singapore, we launched the inaugural Micron Chip Camp in Singapore for Malay and Muslim students enrolled in the Yayasan MENDAKI program. In Idaho, we are proud to support the efforts of the Discovery Center of Idaho by providing funding for Title I STEM field trips, school break camps and classes, and teen programs to inspire students of all ages in STEM learning. The Micron Innovation Lab at the Center enables DCI to build and expand upon their cherished "Classics Collection" of exhibits they have on-site. In Central New York, the Foundation works with the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) to provide STEM activities with a focus on underrepresented students all year long – and Micron Technology also supports MOST in many ways.
Last week we collaborated with Girl Scouts of Japan and Hiroshima University to bring Chip Camp to Japan for another round! It was just over a year ago that we launched the STEM Badge Program for girls to explore the pathways for future #STEM careers. Chip Camp was the first STEM Badge Program in which almost 150 junior high school girls participated since last year. This year, 46 girls mainly from Western Japan, including Hiroshima, joined the 3-day long program. The first two days, the girls enjoyed learning about semiconductors through lectures by Micron Technology engineers and had a hands-on STEM workshop with Hiroshima University professors and students. On the final day, the scouts visited Micron's fabrication facility and had a panel session with Micron young female engineers, exchanging opinions on how females can take a leadership roles in engineering fields. They also had a special visit from Hiroshima Prefecture Vice Governor Ms. Tamai, who joined the panel session, and answered questions from the girl scouts. https://lnkd.in/gth7Dsrx
Micron India hosted students from across five premier engineering colleges for a two-day 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 in Hyderabad. The workshop was offered under the flagship 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙣 (𝙐𝙍𝘼𝙈) 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢. The third-year engineering students were invited to explore the world of semiconductors, learn from senior India leaders about industry developments, and participate in hackathons to test their skills and temperament. Students also toured our state-of-the-art India labs and learned about Micron’s technology and product leadership through the Micron India Experience Center (MIEC). We “live” our people value by investing in innovative programs that attract and engage top talent; building a creative, diverse and inclusive team; and benefiting our global communities.
