The prestigious award ceremony was held at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London, hosted by former Leader of the Conservative Party, William Hague, and England Rugby World Cup winner and broadcaster, Maggie Alphonsi. Explaining why Orbit was a deserving winner, the judges said: “It’s been a strong year for Orbit. The Midlands-based housing association completed over 1,000 homes, started another 1,234 and has a five-year pipeline of 5,000 homes, including 1,500 through its latest £104m Strategic Partnership with Homes England. Forward sales are worth more than £50m. We are proud to announce we have reduced the carbon footprint of our operations by a third (33%) since we established a baseline in 2018, and by 6.9% in the past year. These reductions have been made possible by a series of measures including procurement of green electricity, an agile working policy and energy saving measures in our schemes and offices. We have made a firm commitment to achieving net zero carbon in our operations by 2030 and becoming net zero carbon in our homes and supply chain before 2050.
