Tek Experts Turns Good Deeds Day into Good Deeds Month This year Tek Experts employees were proud to join with millions of others across the globe to support global change as part of Good Deeds Day. What is Good Deeds Day? Launched in 2007 by Shari Arison, Good Deeds Day is an annual initiative that invites people to take impactful action to create positive change in their community and our world. How does Tek Experts give back? 2022 was the first year Tek Experts was globally involved in Good Deeds Day, with colleagues in six countries coming together to celebrate and spread good deeds. But for 2023 we wanted to do even more. We’re proud to say that each of our sites celebrated not only on April 16th, the official Good Deeds Day, but also throughout the entire month of April! Throughout what we called “Good Deeds Month”, colleagues in seven countries carried out good deeds for their local communities and beyond as part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives, and we were thrilled to see the outcomes. “Tek Experts participates in Good Deeds Day as an opportunity to live out the We Care company value with gusto! Through acts of kindness, our teams create meaningful social impact for their peers and communities and nurture the environment."

At Tek Experts, International Women’s Day is a great opportunity for us to examine the ongoing gender gap in the tech industry and the work we are doing to close this gap. We understand the importance of diversity in the workplace and the positive effects it has on both our employees and the business. We encourage supporting women in our industry to continue pursuing their career goals, whether it be through mentorship, training, allyship, or another form of support. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity, acknowledging that equal opportunities are not always fair opportunities and encouraging the global understanding of equality versus equity.
What’s causing the tech talent shortage? A lot is happening in the world right now that is impacting the availability of technical talent and how organizations are shaping their tech talent strategies. Competition for talent remains fierce with businesses looking for new ways to attract and retain employees. Let’s explore four key reasons why organizations are struggling with technical talent shortages today. 1. Changing skills requirements from digital transformation The Fourth Industrial Revolution has increased interconnectivity and smart automation, changing many of the digital skills required for technical roles. This alone is causing a shortage in new technology skills requirements and increased inequality among the workforce as skills gaps widen. With the Fifth Industrial Revolution just around the corner, digital skills requirements will continue to evolve as the relationship between people and machines changes.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives were initially created to provide workers with greater opportunities and healthier working environments, but study after study has shown that diverse workplaces are also better for employers. Having a diverse workplace is about more than merely increasing diversity sores. Diversity drives innovation and attracts more employees from a wider pool of candidates. The advantages of DEI are especially important to technology companies. Our industry has consistently lagged the overall private industry in diversity. According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, high-tech sector employment is 68.5 % white vs. 63.5% overall, and 83.3% of technology executives are white.
Aileen Allkins, Chief Customer Officer of Tek Experts, has been featured in IT Pro discussing the critical importance of building a culture of learning for businesses in the modern digital world. With demand for skills outweighing available talent, it’s key for organizations to invest in their employees’ career progression through reskilling and upskilling. By equipping their employees with essential technical and power skills, businesses have an opportunity to set themselves apart from their competitors and remain at the forefront of their industry. “This is an important message for companies – investing in your employees’ growth and building a culture of learning will be the way you thrive in this new digital world.”

According to the Federal Government, the floods displaced over 1.4 million people, killed over 603 people, and injured more than 2,400 people. In addition, 82,035 houses were damaged, and 332,327 hectares (821,198 acres) of land were affected.
