Nando’s: We Value Glassdoor As It Helps Us Identify What Could Be Done Better

This hugely popular high-street chain has now been the UK's highest rated restaurant on Glassdoor's Best Places To Work for two years in a row (2017/2018). Not only is Nando's a fantastic place to come together and eat, but their employees really love working there. Pretty impressive considering the competitiveness of the industry. MDT: What does it mean to you to be the highest rated restaurant in the UK? RB: It means a great deal to us especially as it’s due to the feedback of our current and past Nandoca’s (team members). We continually strive to make Nando’s a special place to work, so to hear that it is, is something we are very proud of How do you help build a great company culture? By truly living by our values of Pride, Passion, Courage, Integrity, and Family. Every one of our 15,000 Nandocas works to keep those values alive by following our internal compass and being the best version of themselves. What do you do to foster employee trust and engagement? We believe it’s important to get regular feedback from our Nandocas on how we’re performing as a business and what we need to work on. We hold regular Nandoca listening forums where Nandocas are given the time to tell us how they’re feeling. We also have a newly created team who look into the outputs from the Nandoca Forums, our internal engagement survey (Heart & Soul) and other listening mechanisms to give us real insight into how we can improve or how we keep doing the great things we do. Your employees love working here as we see the strong rating on Glassdoor - How do you make this a great place to work day in and day out? We believe it’s our culture that makes Nando’s a great place to work; we also have a lot of fun in the process. But we’re not without our faults; we know there’s a lot of work to do to continue to keep our culture alive. We really value the feedback on Glassdoor, because it helps us identify that we don’t always get it right and we could be better. What is the best part about working here? The best thing about working here is the people they are incredible! They are so passionate about making a difference and they work incredibly hard to bring that to life. What do you look for in informed candidates?
