Pros
Flexible in that you set your own schedule.
Cons
No increase in pay since at least 2020.
Pros
freedom to make your schedule, determine caseload size and therapeutic flexibility
Cons
low pay for very experienced therapists and no rate increase since starting in 2020
Pros
Lots of clients are available
Cons
The pay is insulting, there's no movement no pay raises
Pros
They have lots of clients. You can easily get a decent caseload.
Cons
Their compensation model devalues the therapist profession, feels more like working for a call center, only the call center will probably pay you better. Their pay is based on time logged on your sessions, but they cap each session at 45 minutes, making it more harder to reach their pay increase thresholds. This is not good for therapist. You will end up getting paid about 23 dollars per client. It'll take you 7 clients to log 5 hours of work. If you value your profession, work for a different platform that is credentialled to take insurance.
Pros
I receive so many referrals, never have to wait to get clients. They also pay to get licensed in high demand states and give a bonus once you are licensed. They paid for the classes I needed and walked me through all the steps. I received a bonus from signing up and getting my first client. It is all super easy and clients contact their team for any billing/financial support. You make more money, the more clients you see. You receive payment for reading and writing to clients as well. Healthcare benefit if you get 30+ hours a week.
Cons
You are paid per hour and not per session and sessions are 45 minutes. Not all clients are ready for therapy and many will no show or late cancel, or not show up at all. You can get some compensation for late cancels, but not the full session amount as you would in a practice setting. Clients do not have permanent session slots (pro and con), so it is hard to predict what your schedule will look like every week or what hours/days clients need when you take them on. Pay is on the lower side, but it does get much better the more clients you see.
Pros
I have had the privilege of working with BetterHelp for the past five years and continue to be impressed by their unwavering commitment to mental health. BetterHelp emerged as a true leader in telehealth when the world needed it most—during the height of COVID-19. As people across the globe struggled with crippling anxiety and unimaginable loss, BetterHelp responded with innovative and accessible online psychotherapy services. Their forward-thinking approach and genuine care for clients and providers have made it an incredible workplace. I am proud to be part of an organization that remains at the forefront of mental health care, and I look forward to continuing my journey here for many more years.
Cons
While my overall experience at BetterHelp has been positive, I believe there are a few areas where the platform could continue to grow and evolve. First, BetterHelp could expand its impact by marketing directly to schools and offering opportunities for qualified professionals to supervise students pursuing careers in mental health. This would help build the next generation of therapists while enhancing community engagement. Second, an increased presence across social media platforms would strengthen BetterHelp’s visibility and public outreach, ensuring that more individuals in need can access services. Lastly, I believe an increase in pay rates for seasoned professionals would better reflect the level of expertise and commitment they bring to the platform. I share these thoughts with the hope of seeing BetterHelp continue to lead and innovate within the telehealth space.
Pros
You can set your own schedule. The company listens and responds to both customer and employee needs and discusses their updates openly. You can interact with clients via their website and get paid for chats and words, not just for their sessions. You can also get paid for their homework and journaling done on the website and shared with you.
Cons
Pay is very odd and done in a tiered format where you only get a certain pay rate for 5 hour increments. You can only schedule 30 or 45 minute appointments, so if you want to take on 40 hours of paid work, you'll have to schedule much more client appointments than 40.
Pros
Flexible in that you set your own schedule.
Cons
No increase in pay since at least 2020.
Pros
Ease of use within the platform, open scheduling, simple interface.
Cons
The pay rate is unacceptable. It's been over four years now without a raise of any kind. Counselors are not compensated sufficiently (and at times not at all) for cancelled sessions, nor do those missed hours work towards our progressive pay scale. The first five hours of time are compensated at $30/hr, and a $5/hr increase every five hours. The client sessions are capped at 45 minutes, meaning if your session goes over 45 minutes the they stop paying you for the session. Many times the clients simply aren't finished talking (let's be honest; 45 minutes is not usually enough time for a full session) so we work for free a lot.
Pros
I love the system that they use. It is very user friendly. You are free to do your job as a professional.
Cons
I would like to see a pay increase.
