Pros
Decent pay with yearly bonus.
Provided lunches during tax season.
Managers and coworkers are nice, never had my request for PTO denied when it was for something significant like weddings or funerals, even during our busiest times.
Benefits are good and you're given a stipend to offset the cost, which makes it almost free.
The business is the best at what it does, everyone has to file taxes, so the company isn't going anywhere.
Cons
No work-life balance (70+ hour work weeks during tax season, September through February and possibly longer depending on the year).
All programming languages and tools are proprietary, no opportunity for career skill growth here.
Currently merging with another company, causing a lot of layoffs when we were already understaffed for the work load (hence the 70+ hours during tax season), making the work experience even worse.
Upper-level management's response to significant overtime is "That's the job", while actively making decisions that make it worse, such as layoffs.
