      Technical Writer Interview

      12 Oct 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

      I interviewed at ActioNet

      Interview

The process was pretty straightforward. I talked to one of the managers regarding my background in the first round. The second round of interviews went into my thought process when tackling different situations and my technical acumen.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ActioNet (Washington, DC) in Jul 2013

      Interview

I had two phone interviews followed by one interview in person. The first phone interview was with an IT professional; the second phone interview was with the project manager. A lot of the phone interview was spent explaining that the Technical Writer position was a new one and the needs of the company. The in-person interview went exceedingly well. I met with the two people who I had phone interviews with, as well as an additional manager. All three individuals seems extremely impressed with my qualifications and capabilities. The interview went much longer than anyone anticipated. In the interview, the project manager let slip that the company was just awarded additional contracts and would be looking to hire 2 additional technical writers the following year. The project manager said, "You could be overseeing the new technical writers since you would be with us longer and have a better understanding of our setup." All of these interviews were obtained through a recruiter with ActionNet. The recruiter insisted that he would stay in touch and said, "I know how terrible it is to apply for a job and never hear back." Well, they ended up doing just that. I was told that the managers would come to a decision the following week. Then they said they'd have an answer in 48 hours. Then, oh, someone is on vacation, should hear back next week. Finally, my request for an update on the hiring status was met with no reply. The red flag for me should have been when the IT professional told me that they had started the hiring process for a technical writer in the past, but that the hiring process got lost when they hit a busy stretch.
