      UI/Interaction Designer Interview

      13 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Melbourne
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Aesop (Melbourne)

      Interview

Overall, I'd whittle my experience down to 'underwhelming', and I say this for a few reasons. I think the assumption should be, given the company's storied history of creative rigor/an obsession with the details, to anticipate some really high calibre stuff. What I got were platitudes. When their entire process spanned something like two months; when I was repeatedly getting my named spelt incorrectly (I was greeted with a few emails that had a number of grammatical errors--the majority of which came from the hiring manager as well as their in-house recruiter); and when I received a compensation package below market value, It didn't make much sense to acquiesce. While I did genuinely find some of the folks I met during my interview to be smart and sincere, the performative aspects just couldn't be ignored. I 100% believe that they bet on candidates being seduced by name alone in signing on to work for them, but it's 2021 and the complacency shows. Very much a case of oversell & underdeliver.
