      Translator Interview

      25 Oct 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Amara in Oct 2017

      Interview

I received an email with an invitation to book an interview. There were lots of busy timeslots, the nearest available was in 2 days. The interview consisted of copypasted questions and information.

      Interview questions [4]

      Question 1

First, are you age 18 or older? What is your native language, and are you fluent in any others? Are you comfortable translating from your native language into English? Do you currently work for other translation organizations? And do you currently volunteer for any of the Amara teams such as TED Talks, Art21, or PBS NewsHour? If so, for how long?
      Answer question

      Question 2

So many times we hear that this is the case. We have heard that bad, inaccessible subtitles are worse than no subtitles at all -- at least with no subtitles, you're not expecting anything. With bad subtitles, you expect to access the content, but then cannot do so. Does this make sense so far? Which part doesn't make sense?
      Answer question

      Question 3

Do you enjoy working closely with other translators? Or if you haven't yet, do you work well in a team environment?
      Answer question

      Question 4

Our deadlines are usually 3-4 days after the start of the project. (Videos over 30 minutes are given longer deadlines.) Does this sound okay?

I applied online. I interviewed at Amara

      Interview

written interview through skype. They got back to me in 2-3 months with a generic email asking me to choose a time slot for interview. Afterwards, I had a skype interview (text only). The questions were generic and I almost sensed as if I was speaking to bot.
