Interview matrix allows for emotion to be removed from the process. Assistants interview candidates to weed out applicants that would not be a good fit for location. General manager was not the final decision maker.

As long as you can answer yes or no questions, you are hired. I’m sure even if you couldn’t answer yes or no questions, you’d still be hired. It’s an easy process and they are usually extremely short staffed with a high turnover rate so they are always desperate for people.
First interview is with the two assistant managers, individually. If they both agree you would be a good candidate, you will be called in for a second interview with the store manager.
