      Fullstack Software Engineer Interview

      10 Oct 2024

      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Amplemarket (Lisbon, Lisbon District) in Jul 2024

      Interview

My interview process with Amplemarket started on July 30 and concluded on October 9, spanning approximately 11 weeks. I went through five rounds, including online quizzes, an HR screening, technical interviews, and an interview with the CEO. - 1st Round: Online tech quizzes. - 2nd Round: HR Screening (15 mins). The HR interview with Beatriz was pleasant, professional, and gave me the impression that the rest of the process would follow the same tone. - 3rd Round: Engineering Manager Interview - Technical "Deep Dive" (1hr). This round, like the following technical interviews, was engaging, and the engineers were great to interact with. - 4th Round: Two technical interviews – 1hr coding and 1hr technical discussion. Both sessions were well-conducted, and the interviewers were respectful and insightful. - 5th Round: CEO Interview – supposed "Pair Programming," but it felt more like a rushed coding exercise. The CEO was 7 minutes late and seemed distracted and in a hurry throughout the interview, a pattern mentioned in other reviews. Throughout the interview process, the engineers and managers I interacted with were genuinely great, making me excited about the prospect of joining the team. However, my experience with the CEO left me skeptical and disappointed. Overall Experience Even though I had read Glassdoor reviews about Amplemarket's interview process, I convinced myself that they might not apply to me. In hindsight, I should have taken them more seriously. The process dragged on for 11 weeks, filled with long periods of silence, which caused anxiety as I awaited feedback. Emails often went unanswered for days, likely because they were waiting for other candidates to reach a similar stage before stringing me along. I invested a lot of time and effort, only to be left feeling used and taken advantage of. After the CEO interview, I was told I'd have a final round with the other founders. But instead, I received a rejection email a week later. This last-minute rejection, after the CEO himself indicated another round was coming, left me feeling disappointed and misled. I had even put in my resignation at my current job, feeling confident about an offer that never came. Diversity Concerns Another point of concern for me was the lack of diversity at the company, which became apparent when I looked at their team photos on Glassdoor and LinkedIn. As a person of color, I wondered if this would affect my chances, especially after reading similar feedback from another candidate of color. My rejection after performing well in the interviews only reinforced this feeling. Amplemarket may seem like a great place to work, but the lengthy and impersonal process, combined with the lack of transparency, made the experience incredibly disheartening. Conclusion If you're considering applying, be prepared for a long, drawn-out process. Read the reviews carefully and make an informed decision about whether the time investment is worth it. Personally, I wish I had dropped out early on instead of dedicating 11 weeks to this experience.

      Application

I interviewed at Amplemarket (Lisbon, Lisbon District)

      Interview

The process was a bit lenghty, but I feel very good about it during the whole thing. For me it was: - Online quiz - HR screening interview - Technical interview/Coding exercise - Meeting with the CEO I have to confess I came here before the meeting with the CEO and I was kind of worried by other reviews. I don't know if something changed, but my experience with the CEO was good. He did arrive late, but apologized. He wasn't rude at all, for me he was an engineer, and we know we engineers are not good at expressing emotions so, nothing out of the ordinary, I would say I enjoyed the conversation, even tho I didn't get an offer in the end.
