      Clinical Applications Specialist Interview

      21 Oct 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Raleigh, NC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ascom (Raleigh, NC) in Sept 2017

      Interview

I was quite excited when I received a call from their HR department. The initial screening interview went well and the position appeared to be a perfect fit for both my interests and experience. The second phone interview was with the hiring manager. We discussed their needs, growth plans and further verified that my many years of nursing and healthcare IT were a perfect fit. We also confirmed in both phone interviews that my salary expectations were within the range they were offering. Within two business days, the hiring manager called me and extended an offer to go to their HQ for an onsite. A red flag popped up when he told me that I would need to arrange and pay for my own travel up front and Ascom would reimburse me. In my experience, companies always pay for interview travel up front. But because the screening interviews went so well, I felt this was perhaps just a new trend. I was scheduled for 3.5 hrs of interviews with the hiring Director, another department Director, a Senior VP, HR, and a person who works in the role for which I was applying but was soon moving to a new role. The overall interview process was positive with the exception of one “negative Nellie”. I went home “knowing” I had aced this and was simply awaiting an offer. Two weeks later, I still hadn’t gotten a positive or negative on the offer nor been reimbursed my travel expenses. Another week passed and I sent an email to the hiring manager because I noticed on Indeed that the application deadline had been moved up. He verified a change in their job description looking for more recent clinical experience. Had I known they’re weren’t solid in their plans early on, I wouldn’t have wasted two days of PTO from my current employer nor spent my own money to travel to the on site interview. BTW - it has now been exactly one month and I still haven’t been reimbursed for my travel.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We take pride in our recruiting efforts and we're happy to hear that you had a pleasant experience for the most part. We ask our candidates to expense their travel up front because we want to ensure we are covering all of your costs. We take all of our candidate interviews seriously and after looking into your case, I have confirmation that we did, in fact, reimburse you for your travel on October 19th. If there is any confusion around your travel expenses, please reach back out to us and we'd be happy to help clarify any inquiries.
