      Software Developer Interview

      27 Apr 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian (Bengaluru) in Apr 2019

      Interview

Overall, a drawn out process but this is expected for large companies. There were 3 rounds in total. First was one where I was given a toy project and I had to solve bugs, and implement missing features in it. Not too difficult, as compared to the algorithm/ds rounds that are common at most places. Second was a discussion round where they discussed my resume, and asked me to describe a past project in detail. They went quite deep with respect to the work I had done in the past. At the end of this round, there was a design question which, again is not difficult if you've worked as an software engineer. Third round was the values round where they probed into the 5 Atlassian values. For me, this was the most difficult round as opposed to any of the technical stuff. I liked the company culture as a whole, and the offer was quite good as well. At the end, the recruiter was a bit pushy though. When I asked for a bit of time as I was waiting to hear from other places where I was simultaneously interviewing at , I was guilty of not being excited enough. I don't think this is reasonable. I've to decide on where to spend my next 3-5 years and this requires a bit of thought. Other than this, overall positive experience and definitely a very good place to work.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Pair programming round, fixing a few bugs in a project and implementing some features. Follow TDD - write a failing test for any bug and make it pass. Use a debugger and step through in case you face any issues. Unlike the usual whiteboard stuff common in interviews, this requires no practice whatsoever if you're a software engineer.

      Question 2

Values interview. This actually requires preparation. Read up in advance on their values, prepare instances from your past work where you had to exhibit these values. Practice one/two short story for each value. Google for software developer behavioral questions. Make sure to ask questions. One negative feedback was that I didn't ask any questions about Atlassian, when the fact was that I had just read up a lot on them from their site, glassdoor, teamblind and all.

      Interview

Recruiter reached out to me then ghosted in the middle of trying to set up a meeting. Very disrespectful of my time. Just as well, how a company treats candidates is usually a good indicator of how they treat employees
