IT Helpdesk Support Technician (Hybrid) Interview

      13 Mar 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at BCS365 in Mar 2024

      Interview

I recently moved to Boston and had only heard about the racial disparities in the corporate world but experiencing them firsthand hits differently. Roy AbiYounes at BCS365 embodies the kind of stories that are all too common in Boston. I applied for an IT Helpdesk Support Technician (Hybrid) position in Cambridge, and the initial interview was extremely positive. The team seemed impressed by my background, professional demeanor, and my technical knowledge. They arranged a second interview with a client, a Senior Director. During this second interview with the Senior Director, despite confidently answering all technical and customer service questions, the interviewer's focus on my presentation and work ethics felt prejudiced. He made it seem that my appearance would not fit the job culture, emphasizing that I would be working alongside employees with PhDs and Master's degrees as if to suggest my qualifications were insufficient due to racial disparities. This experience was valid proof of the systemic issues still present in some parts of the corporate world. I shared my background working in a White glove environment and provided details of my experiences. I also encouraged him to reach out to my references, which include Directors and Managers with whom I maintain strong relationships to this day. I’ve reached out and declined the position after knowing they are willing to offer the job only after I meet with the Senior Director boss and the direct on-site report. That whole second process just seemed uncanny. They liked me enough to offer me a remote job. They called and wanted verbal confirmation of the job offer and I verbally agreed. They then mentioned that the offer letter would be sent out later in the week. Later, they informed me of a newly implemented procedure that involved the CEO in the interview process and would require me to have an interview with Roy AbiYounes the CEO of BCS365. Roy AbiYounes is truly the embodiment of the stories you hear in Boston. The interview was conducted where I was the only one with my camera on. He asked me about my current role then continued to judge qualifications with a tone suggesting he had already decided not to hire me. His demeanor was unnecessarily antagonistic and hostile. He threw some MCSE questions and expected to respond in a textbook manner. However, even when I provided practical solutions, he would come back with "gotcha" responses aimed at tripping me up. Then to make the experience even worse he tries to belittle me for not answering it in the manner he wanted and advises me to switch career path. This behavior appears to be a standard practice within their company culture, as several minority candidates have also shared their negative encounters with BCS365. It was so bad that I had folks from his company apologizing for his actions as they probably seen how he treats his employees and any potential minority hires.
