      News & Content Writer Interview

      22 Jun 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Brafton (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2013

      Interview

I interviewed for a content writing position at Brafton's Chicago office in the west loop; before being introduced to anyone, or told anything about the company or position, I was handed a written exam with mostly quantitative questions and told I had 12 minutes to complete. From there, I turned it in and was finally told what the position was about. After the interview I was scheduled to complete an at-home test where I had 90 minutes to write three (3) 250-word articles in AP style on prompts sent to me on the spot. I was not even given a general topic to become familiar with. Once prompted, I essentially cited the first 3 Google news results I found on about the subject. I imagine this is the level of quality Brafton's clients can expect from it's daily "news" pieces. Apparently, I did not meet Brafton's high expectations, because I never received a response after that, not even a call to confirm that the position was filled or that they had even received my test articles. They never even returned my emails, even though I told them I needed a response to know whether to accept or decline a contract for other work I had been offered within the week. I feel like I dodged a bullet. I have never experienced the type of dismissive and disrespectful atmosphere I dealt with in my short tenure as a candidate for News & Content Writer Brafton.

      Question 1

The quantitative multiple choice test I was given. What does solving math problems have to do with content writing?

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Brafton (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Started with phone interview, then moved onto a 90-minute timed writing test, which basically consisted of writing two 200-300 blogs based on two articles they provided. After that had an in-person interview with very standard questions. Was supposed to take some kind of IQ test but the computer wasn't working... In retrospect, it was all a little excessive considering the standard of writing at Brafton, which was very low.

Honestly nothing out of the ordinary. Just be personable and you'll be fine.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Brafton in Nov 2014

      Interview

I got an email less than 2 weeks after submitting my application to request a phone interview. We arranged this as well as a time for me to take Brafton's writing exercise, which would take 90 minutes. The interview with Delia went well (I thought), standard questions, and lots of time for me to ask my own questions and get a comprehensive idea of the job. I did the writing exercises right after and was told I'd hear back soon. After more than a week had gone by, I emailed a follow-up to both the HR contact and the person who interviewed me. No response. I waited another couple weeks and then emailed again to check in. I was excited about the prospect of working here, but no one ever responded, which I found quite unprofessional, not to mention rude, considering I went through their interview process.

      Interview

They don't care about you. All they care about is how much they can get out of you if you're hired. They do a ridiculous skill assessment that means nothing, and even the person I interviewed with said it was just protocol to do it. Felt like an SAT when I took it.
