I applied online. I interviewed at Cabot (Boston, MA) in Oct 2018
Interview
I submitted cover letter and CV, and was then contacted for initial phone screen with HR. Most of the conversation was normal (i.e., all the usual stuff about background, interest, etc.)
For some reason, the HR rep kept referring to the company, at different times, as Iron Mountain or Carbon Black...Are these the names of specific divisions within the company?? Isn't Iron Mountain a document storage company?? Is "Carbon Black" is one of their specialty chemicals?? Isn't that also the name of an wholly other company? In any event, it was confusing to hear these different names peppered throughout the conversation with no other context or clarifying explanation.
Along with the bizarre company name confusion, she kept talking about some guy named "MTR"...e.g., "When you talk to MTR, you'll have to tell him all about that!"; "MTR really likes to work with people with really varied backgrounds."; "MTR will love that you've worked with some energy clients"; "Oh, you and MTR are going to have lots to talk about!"
Never once were the first/last names or position/role of "MTR" ever explained to me. I never had a chance to ask, because I could not get a word in edgewise, and I was not given an opportunity to ask any questions at the end.
At the end of the conversation, the rep said that she would schedule a time for me to speak with MTR the following week—never heard from her (or anyone in HR) again.
More than anything else, I'm just disappointed that I never got to speak with the mythic MTR, who has since taken on a towering, legendary status in my own imagination.
