      Field Sales Representative Interview

      30 May 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Cengage

      Interview

After not receiving an interview the first round, I noticed that the posting was made again 3 months after I had applied. I sent a message to the manager asking why it was still open and I expressed interest. He gave me another shot at it and flew in for an interview. It went well and I was asked to fly to Farmington Hills for a follow up interview with a bunch of other people to present my campus project. I ended up doing it remotely by skype because I was not able to travel at that time for family reasons.

      Field Sales Representative Interview

      19 Nov 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Cengage (Boston, MA) in Aug 2018

      Interview

There were multiple steps to the process. It began with a phone interview followed by an in person interview with the District Manager and the Regional Manager. This was followed by a campus project where I had to go on campus to interview faculty to see what the experience in the field could be like. I then wrote about my experience with each faculty member and submitted it for review. This was followed by another phone interview and another in person interview. Once that was through, I had was given a scenario and asked to do a demonstration of one of the products. I was given a few days to prepare, which was sufficient, and then demonstrated the product to the District Manager and a colleague who would normally assist in digital demonstrations and trainings. I was given negative feedback for this, but was also told I would be interviewing with the VP of Sales. This ultimately did not happen due to the demonstration. This was a bit of a shock as the feedback on my attitude and personality during the demonstration was good, the only negative feedback received was based on product specific questions, which could have been learned better through further experience on the job. All in all, it was a long process but worth it in terms of being able to say that I would have enjoyed the position rather than just being told about the position.
