I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Central Garden & Pet (Boise, ID) in Oct 2022
Interview
Online interview. The interviewers were nice, but made it very clear they were doing me a favor by interviewing me as I was an employee referral. They also told me it would be several months of in office training (which was fine) and seemed annoyed that one of the reasons I was interested in the position was because it would be remote after training. Don't tout on your job postings that one of the perks of the job as being remote if you don't like that as one of the main reasons people say they want to work woth you.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Are you comfortable with training on-site for up to 6 months?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Central Garden & Pet (Boise, ID) in Apr 2025
Interview
2 finance supervisors via Webex. Anything in "quotes" is actually a DIRECT quote. For reference, I'm 20 years into my career, have held & done well at several VERY fast paced/difficult AP jobs & even been a supervisor)
This interview was a truly demoralizing experience Both interviewers RIGHT off were aggressively needling me to talk about uncomfortable/bad experiences at my current employer, why I "wanted to jump ship". Both took GREAT pleasure in "cracking" me "quick", then lectured me for 20 minutes for not being "straight forward" because I wanted to keep it positive. (besides the fact that talking sh@# about your current employer is interview no-no #1)
Honest feedback is one thing but insulting and lecturing a candidate is a completely other thing entirely. ("you don't seem to have any emotional intelligence (?!?!) and our fast-paced, focused teams don't have time to support you in that; we don't want to waste our time training people who we're a rebound job for. so, its a pass")
If you enjoy being spoken down to and treated like you are trying to sit at the mean girls' lunch table, then you should apply. If you don't kowtow to folks who get big headed about managing people, probably skip it.
