      Interview

I was continually interviewed by back end folks despite it being a front end position. I didn't felt they could accurately assess my skillset at all. Overall, it was a poor process v

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Chewy (Dania Beach, FL) in Aug 2016

      Interview

I usually don't take the time to leave reviews about my interviews but since this one is very "different" I thought it was worth giving some advice to other fellow coders out there. The process started with an email from a recruiter requesting availability to have an initial phone screen. From now on, the whole process for me was very weird and obscure, you'll realize why. So the day of the first chat over the phone with the recruiter arrived and minutes before I got an email from him with his phone number for me to call him (usually is the other way around, 1st red flag). I said ok and called, he was in a rush, asked me a few questions about my background and experience and sounded like he was doing that because he didn't have any other choice. No explanation about the role or the company was provided and there wasn't opportunity to ask questions either (2nd red flag). After that I got another email from a recruiting coordinator whom was very polite and professional her emails, we scheduled another phone interview with their VP of Software Development, it was a little rare to know that a VP executive is involved in the hiring process at this stage but I set my mistrust apart again this time. I had the call and again similar thing like the recruiter, another rush, got asked basic questions and I was put on hold for a few seconds in the middle of the call, after that she told me she had some stuff to take care of and the recruiter would follow up in the next days, again same scenario, no time for questions from my end, no explanation about the role or company, not professional at all (3rd red flag). Recruiter followed up to schedule a 3rd phone screen, this time technical with a senior developer. This was the only one I have no complains about, very polite, explained the role and what they were looking for, apologized for my previous bad experiences through the process and asked some technical questions about javascript, html/css, responsive design, front end best practices, etc. After that I received an email with a HackerRank test to do and a simple landing page design I had to code up using only html/css, no libraries. I had a couple of questions about those tests and emailed my recruiter asking for clarification, I just got an email back saying "don't worry about taking the test", period, and I was like "what the heck is wrong with these people?", so i emailed back asking for clarifications on both my previous email and that "one sentence email". Didn't hear back from them in a few days and after I wrote a polite email asking what was going on, the recruiter finally decided to do his job and replied saying we needed to talk, when I read that the first thing I thought was: "are these guys really going to tell me they weren't moving forward with the process this way?". Exactly!! the feedback I got was that I didn't have too many years of front end experience to be a senior developer, they were looking for guys with 10+ years. Summary of the story, maybe the process is not like that for every candidate (I hope it isn't), but it was really bad for me, so watch out if you are planning to apply or interview there.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Basic questions about front end development, javascript, html/css. They seem to focus more on html/css website development than engineering or CS questions.
