I applied online. I interviewed at Common Networks
Interview
This is probably the second worst interview I’ve had in my life, and most people are shocked when I recount the story.
I'd found the company online, and was called in for an interview. Starting off I really didn’t connect with the first interviewer, she was very standoffish, detached, and I had to work fairly hard to forge a connection with her.
I really liked the second person, one of the founders who seemed amazing. But the third and final interview (also a founder) was my no. Not just a no, but a 'this job sounds awesome but there is no way I would EVER choose to work with that person' no.
She started the interview simply enough with a question about my background. But very quickly moved on to what I can only describe as a micro-managed duck hunting shotgun approach. After asking about my background she went on to interrupt me multiple times to specifically tell me not to answer something a certain way, or talk about certain things in my background, or to speak about certain experience I had - the entire time coming off curt and mildly unapproachable.
She wrapped up the meeting with an odd marketing question, only to interrupt me to tell me to focus on something else when she felt I was "heading down the wrong path."
During the debrief with the person I'd originally interviewed with on the phone it felt like I was subtly asked to comment on her interview style, but decided it was better to stay polite. Honestly, if she'd been first to interview me I would have walked out.
