      Tour Manager Interview (Asia) Interview

      18 Jan 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bondi
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Contiki (Bondi) in Jan 2017

      Interview

Online application including CV, cover letter and 7 page application. If you make it through the online application you are invited to attend a group interview in Sydney (Bondi Junction). You must prepare a 3 minute speech on a topic of their choosing that is provided to you once you accept the offer of a group interview. Depending on the region you have applied for it seems to be talks based on this region for example Asia TM role - topics include landmarks such as Angkor Wat, political history or governments, regional National Parks or features like the Mekong River. If you are located outside of the city where they hold interviews all the associated expenses of such as accommodation/flights will be at your own expense. The Group interview is held with about 20 other people of all different backgrounds (not necessarily Tourism backgrounds) and many x-Contiki Tour passengers. The first activity was to talk to person near you and find out some facts and then present that person to the group. Activity two is to present your 3 minute speech in front of the group. There are four employees at the back of the room watching and judging the whole process. After this, there is a brief discussion regarding how great Contiki is, in the opinion of the manger giving the speech who also mentioned that she loved Contiki so much and had 3 degrees in all unrelated fields, so she could do any job she wanted. Then the training trip is disscussed. This is an UNPAID trip they offer to applicants who successfully pass the one on one interview. This is not an offer of employment and the details of this particular trip were that it would be 1.5months in duration to begin in Thailand in 2 months time and you would need to cover your own expenses such as flights and some meals. You are also required to complete and extensive Assignment prior to the training trip commencing. At the successful completion of the training trip you will be offered a contract with Contiki and based in Asia (both while on tour and not on tour). They do not tell you but in Australia the law clearly states that this is actually an illegal process to make people go on unpaid training, which gives you insight into the company. They also say that once you are employed by them you are paid a daily rate and given food allowances. They would not disclose how much this was.
