I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Costco Wholesale (Boolaroo) in Jun 2022
Interview
EDIT - I actually received a very respectful response from the company when I declined their offer. They listened to my issues and were happy to take the feedback.
Over the top, too intrusive and completely lacking any boundaries. I completed all the process through to being accepted for the role, so I hope I can offer some insights.
I started with an online assessment, followed by a phone interview of basically the same questions. After this, I attended an in-person interview with 2 people - they were both very late and left me waiting for lengthy periods of time. IMMEDIATELY after this interview, I was as taken to a 2nd in-person interview with 2 more people (none of this was explained to me prior to the interview).
I was then told I would receive a link to my email with some extra questions (behavioural, psychometric etc…). After completing these, I was then asked to book a time for an online ‘physical assessment’. This took place a few days after the link was sent. As soon as I completed this stage, I was sent a link to book a drug screening (urine test). I booked a time appropriate for me (3 days later in the week as I am still working a job throughout this job search). I received a call from Costco asking why I didn’t book an earlier time, to which I explained I was still working (as I’d mentioned numerous times during my application and interviews). I took the drug test and passed.
I was then called asking to provide my vaccination status and ID, as well as further professional references. I provided this and was then called to provide my citizenship certificate which I did.
I will say here that every call I received from Costco was either after 5:30pm in the evening or during the weekend. There are NO boundaries, more alarming was that I had mentioned many times that I was leaving my previous job (I owned a gym that I was selling) because I wanted separation from my work and to spend more quality time with my young family. There was clearly little regard for anything I had mentioned or was looking for in an employer.
2 days after I submitted the last requested items (I’m sure I’ve missed other things they did), I received an email at 4pm saying congratulations and we will see you the next morning for your induction! At no stage was I formally offered ANY job and on top of this, I had provided all information to them that I was still working and would need to finish that before starting. In no way would it be acceptable to ask someone to start the morning after they sent you a late afternoon email.
This company has been red flags from start to finish and I highly recommend you stay clear if you want to have boundaries and respect from an employer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They were extensive psychometric questionnaires, but the in person interview was fairly standard.
When did you go above and beyond?
That sort of thing.
I had 2 rounds of interviews with 3 managers. Only took about 1 hour per each one. Asked basic questions on why I would want the job. And how to handle the job.
It was very straight forward. I ended up getting the job. The interviewer was really nice, and it was a smooth hiring process. I have been working here a long time now, and I love it.
