Difficult interview
Application
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Digits Financial in Dec 2021
Interview
It was a 4 step process. First a phone screen with the head of talent. Next there was an at home programming assignment, with a hard stop after 3 hours. A pairing exercise with members of the Digits team followed which expanded on the original programming assignment. Finally, a career stories interview which walked through highlights and lowlights of previous work experience. At each phase, there was plenty of time for questions and answers.

Question 1
What are your top 3 highlights from your previous job?
"Average" difficulty interview here is a misnomer. I think the interview process is challenging, but the process around it is fantastic. The work assignment is tough. The interviews are tough. But through it all you're supported by an enthusiastic, empathetic recruiter, and being interviewed by dedicated, caring individuals. The people I interacted with are what sold me on accepting their offer: everyone from the recruiter to the CEO was happy to be there.
Despite the in depth process, they move very quickly. There is none of the other BS you find at most other companies, with long wait times between communications, and a never-ending trail of interviews. Each interview is told to you up front and has a clear purpose. The entire process is highly efficient.

Question 1
What are you looking for us to provide in order for you to be successful?
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Digits Financial in Aug 2020
Interview
I received a standard cold outreach from an external recruiting company. At the time I wasn't looking for a change, but after hearing more about the Digits product, tech stack, team, founders, and company I felt like it was too good to be true so I took the dive in.
The process went pretty quickly from there, starting with a take home coding challenge in the language of your choice out of several options, timeboxed at 3 hours. I found the exercises enjoyable, well-documented, and increasing in complexity as the challenge went on.
Within a day or so, I was contacted to set up a live interview and the team was super accommodating with my schedule. The first portion was focused on soft skills such as recollecting the history of my career and answering some questions about highlights and lowlights. The next section was a technical interview which was an extension of the take home assignment where we built on solutions in a pair programming, collaborative environment.
The last steps of the interview process included talking to both founders individually to get a feel for the company culture. I didn't hesitate when they extended an offer shortly after!
