Interview
For this position, there was a conversational phone screen with their lead designer that was easy to pass and get to the next stage. Next, a quick 1:1 with the growth manager where you talk about your past work. However, the next part really irked me. I am a professional with ten years experience, and they gave me a graphic design test to do — and to do it within 24 hours.
Never having studied their brand before, I was to come up with announcement copy for email, visual design pieces for a campaign, twitter copy, and formatted emails. I was interested in getting a highly creative job, so I jumped through their ridiculous hoops. I submitted the work to the best of my ability. Apparently, the finished pieces weren't enough — they wanted my creative working files. I thought that was strange; normally if someone isn't your employer, they don't get your native files. However, I complied. I sent the raw files. Within hours, they rejected my application with a cold form email. They provided absolutely no feedback, but were okay with wasting over a day of my life. I think their hiring process is predatory. They are just looking for free work and ideas, and not judging the designer based on their portfolio.
