Interview
You will first meet a recruiter and then your hiring manager. Once screened in through them both (this is also your opportunity to learn a lot about the company and the role!) — you are brought into the interview round. For the first technical assessment you go through two case studies with the hiring manager. I did not move on to the next stage, however, I was told it would be a longer (4hr) series of interviews. This would include another presentation of your case studies to a panel of interested parties.

Interview
Online portfolio review and Q&A sessions with two Doordash design leaders.
I felt the interview was a bit dry. First, two panels asked design related questions after presenting my portfolio, which I felt were valid and reasonable. Then there were also questions that were based on “what-if” scenarios and out of business scope of my previous employer. I felt the questions were irrelevant but answered any way.
I didn’t expect them to find my answers satisfactory, because questions about hypothetical situations that are not based in real life restrictions and challenges are not only irrelevant, but also proves nothing about a candidate’s design ability.

Question 1
If you were to given all the time in the world, without any restrictions, how would you have designed the product differently?

Interview
There were 6 parts to the interview process starting with the initial recruiter phone screen and it took 2 weeks to complete. My recruiter was communicative and kept me in the loop throughout the process.
