Interview
I applied online and was contacted the next day to schedule an interview. The HR screening was thorough, transparent, and positive. They clearly outlined the role expectations, team structure, and compensation, and was professional and approachable throughout.
The interview with two managers, one based in China and one in San Francisco, was a very different experience. The San Francisco manager’s tone came across as dismissive and condescending. When I asked for clarification on questions, there was little effort made to elaborate.
The manager based in China did not introduce themselves and appeared disengaged for most of the interview. They were clearly working on something else on the screen. They did not ask any questions and did not respond to several of my questions, including questions about collaboration between teams in different time zones and countries along with the language barrier. It was difficult to evaluate the team dynamic given the lack of interaction and engagement.
Should also be aware that the role requires availability during both Pacific time and China business hours, which effectively extends the workday into late evening hours.
Overall, while the HR portion was strong, the interview raised concerns about leadership style, communication, and expectations around work hours.
It was good, it went very smooth. The interviewer was friendly and professional, and the process started with a short introduction about the company. I was then asked about my portfolio, design experience, and how I approach creative challenges. Overall, it felt well-organized and respectful.
I received an email asking me to schedule an introduction meeting. I set up the meeting for the same week. The call lasted ten minutes before I withdrew my application.
