      Technical Services Problem-Solver Interview

      11 Oct 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Epic (New York, NY) in Sept 2016

      Interview

I applied online through their my university's job board. 2 days later I received a "thank you for your app..." email from Epic. Later that day, I received an email to set up a phone interview (30min length) within the next 5 business days. After scheduling, I received a confirmation of the scheduling, as well as direction to take a couple online exams within next 5 business days: 1st was a personality profile, takes 10-20 min, very standard personality test, no studying possible. 2nd was a skills assessment, not possible to study for this one either, stated to take 1-2hrs to complete(took me 2), test is proctored using a 3rd party company and can be take on your own computer, Some basic speed-math questions, then they teach you a fake programming language from scratch, you don't need any previous programming experience but my very light experience in programming helped a ton. I could have finished the test much faster, but it allows extra time and ability to go back and review questions as this helps with the fake programming language, so I made sure to take my time. The emails say the process is apply-phone interview-skills assessment-final interview-offer. I took the assessment prior to my phone interview, but it didn't seem to matter, and it even added a talking point with the interviewer, as her assessment wasn't the same as mine(been some time between the two of us taking it) Phone Interview: It was with a person in a similar role to what I was applying for, had a couple 'HR' questions but was mainly about the role, the company, and was very casual. After the Skills assessment and the Phone interview I felt extremely good about getting to the next step. The 6th Business day after completing the phone interview(skills assessment was done 2 days before), I received the 'pursuing other applicants' response and didn't make it to the final interview. I knew going into it that epic has a very secretive and selective interview process. I will continue to look for more opportunities with Epic.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Epic

      Interview

The interview was fairly easy - asked about my education , why I wanted to work there, about myself, the usual. Was offered the technical interview a few hours after my phone interview. The technical interview was pretty difficult - a lot of math, pattern recognition, and faux code to analyze.
