      Pre-Sales Consultant Interview

      12 Dec 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Experian (London, England) in Nov 2018

      Interview

      1) Screening with 3rd party recruiter / CV sent. 2) Phone screening with hiring manager, asked about my experience and apparently wanted to make fully sure that I would be comfortable in a pre-sales role, even though I came from a pre-sales background (asking me about whether I've had to reach targets, whether I had individual commission and stuff like that). I did well enough that I got through to the next round. 3) Face-to-face with the hiring manager and a senior consultant on her team. I had to prepare a presentation which pitched the products and solutions of Experian Data Quality to a theoretical client. I prepared a pretty good set of slides and spent many hours on their site. I thought they were asking for quite a lot of detail and I didn't cope well with that, I didn't believe that I could answer all of their questions purely from information from their site, although I didn't come from a big data background. The interview was more like an assessment / asking pre-set HR questions instead of a conversation, so they didn't appear to care too much about my personality or how I would fit with the team. The senior consultant had a habit of asking me a question and then immediately looking down at her notes so that I ended talking to the wall / the manager instead. Feedback: I was rejected as they didn't like how I tried to bluff my way through some questions (which is fair enough), I didn't know enough about the products (a bit harsh I thought) and that my salary requirements were too high (£50k with 2 years experience).
