      Review Operations Specialist Interview

      26 Aug 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Frontiers

      Interview

It was a two-round interview. The first round was with HR and the second round was with Review Operations Managers. The interviewers were very unfriendly and expected to know the entire publishing and peer review process in real depth. Would not want to work with such unfriendly people.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What do you know about the Peer Review process? What publishing model does Frontiers use?

      Operations Review Specialist Interview

      10 Apr 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Frontiers

      Interview

2 separate interviews, one with recruiters where you need to know in detail their peer review process, which takes a lot of preparation. Second interview with 2 managers. They ask how you would prioritise a list of tasks, they also expect you to know exactly their processes which doesn't make sense since there's no information on that online so you need to guess how they work. Also if you don't get the offer they will ghost you, no feedback, no emails saying you didn't get the job and not even replying to your emails asking for any updates on the interview. Highly unprofessional process, specially if you are asked to prepare a lot for interviews. I'd avoid them, seems like this people don't really know what they're doing.

      Review Operations Specialist Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Frontiers in Nov 2022

      Interview

Long process, unprofessional HR practices. Clearly these folks are hiring way beyond their capacity (publishing 90,000 papers annually) and cannot keep up. I think that after two interviews and a promise to share results within a week, they owe their applicants a response. (If you have HR capacity to keep posting, scheduling and interviewing for dozens of openings at a time, you should be able to send a quick rejection email.) For interviews, be sure to research their peer review processes well and the ways they different teams interact (available on their website). The interviews themselves were STAR-based, but they really delved deep into answers, so be sure choose examples accordingly. There were also two scenario-based questions related to prioritization and conflict resolution. Focus on target-driven work. These were challenging interviews, but I appreciated that the interviewers were really listening and responding to my responses.
