Phone interview with two people. They asked me to go through my portfolio with them - harder than I expected on the phone. I mean, you don't know when they're done looking at things or how quickly to move onto the next project when you're the only one speaking.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What's your favorite type of interior design? They LATER told me that they were with the Workplace studio. I didn't realize.
They conducted an English only interview. A self intro and portfolio sharing, followed by a quick, causal chat with team members. Very friendly vibe overall and I would recommend this firm.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Gensler (New York, NY) in Mar 2026
Interview
The interview process felt like a gradual conversation where each step became more personal and specific. It started with a recruiter call that was relaxed and focused on my background and interest, then moved into a deeper discussion with the hiring manager where I walked through my experiences and explained my thinking and design approach.
they ask you to explain your portfolio and they ask questions about it. They also ask my last intern experiences. And if their is one specific project that i wish to join.
