You are correct that our HR team are not deep experts in every position that we hire, but we find a lot of value in this screening prior to a hiring manager call. The initial HR interview is intentionally focused on evaluating overall fit and communication skills, including how effectively candidates articulate their prior experience and contributions.
While it may not be as in-depth as a conversation with a hiring manager about the role’s responsibilities, that is by design. This stage helps us evaluate candidates across a range of factors and determine whether it makes sense to move forward. The hiring manager also reviews notes from the HR interview, so the details shared about your experience and qualifications are not lost.
We recognize this approach may not meet every candidate’s expectations, but it has proven to be an effective way to assess potential fit early in the process.
