Thanks so much for taking the time to write this review. We care a lot about treating our candidates well -- whether we extend an offer or not -- so it’s extremely helpful to get perspectives like yours. I have some immediate thoughts on what we did wrong: 1) Our interviewers should always come prepared with knowledge of your past work. (I’ll verify whether this was true or not.) Please know, though, that we care a lot about your own perspective of your work. How you talk about what you’ve done is super valuable to us. 2) It’s true we don’t always give tips up front (e.g. time/space complexity). We find it useful to see how candidates approach a problem without any prompting. That said, we try to provide hints as needed throughout the problem, and how a candidate responds to these hints plays a big role in our evaluation. 3) You’re absolutely right that we should be mindful of your time. If we say an interview takes 45 minutes, it’s unfair for us to expect 90 minutes. Your time is valuable, and it’s important we deliver on any expectations we set. Even though candidates take varying amounts of time with our questions, you should always be given a chance to ask us questions too. 4) I’m sorry we came across as elitist. It’s not who we are, it’s rude, and it alienates a lot of the brightest, most humble people. There’s simply no excuse. -- Beyond that, I want to ensure our candidates are as comfortable and well-prepared for these interviews as possible. In terms of next steps, we’ll work on setting clearer expectations on what we look for in candidates. I wish we had done this prior to your interview, but if you have any thoughts on this, please let me know at matin@heapanalytics.com. I’m also happy to talk through any other questions/feedback you might have. Thanks so much!
