I interviewed at Hub City Media (South Plainfield, NJ)

      Interview

I interviewed for the Project Management Position earlier this year. The interview process was broken up into two different days. The first day was just a standard phone interview designed to weed out the worse candidates. These were just basic questions about my background and other standard STAR type scenarios. The second day was in person and took around four hours. I spoke to several different people including other PMs, the someone from Professional services and someone from Marketing. During the first part, I was given an explanation of their project methodology, called compass, and told to create a basic project plan given a few examples. This part was easy enough since compass is basically waterfall with a different name. I then met with someone from marketing, and he tried to ask "difficult" questions I assume to throw me off balance. They were easy enough questions about what to due if you miss timelines or difficult customers etc. Lastly, I was given an odd personality quiz. I had to answer questions about different scenarios and if I was more of a lion, beaver and two other animals. I believe to be a modified version of Myers Briggs, but even less scientific and more inane. There were a few things that factored into my decision to decline the offer. 1. The offer was well below market rate. 2. The whole process was disorganized. No one knew who had spoken to me already or what I had been told. 3. I'm not sure why I met with someone from marketing for a Project management position. 4. The Meyers Briggs test showed how out of touch their thinking is. 5. Their compass methodology shows how they are willing to waste time on unimportant things, when simple waterfall has worked for a long time.
