Firstly I applied through an online website. I was contacted by the girl of the recruitment agency Robert Half who was shortlisting candidates for IG. She sent me a doc with typical HR questions and preparation techniques together with the schedule of the interview day at the IG offices in the City of London. I was told that I had to take the following tests (but I was not given any sample tests to practice on):
-5min maths test
-7min clerical test
-35 numerical critical
-Written language tests
The selection process was very strict and long, I met with loads of people, I was interviewed in total by 5 people.
- I was asked the typical stupid HR questions in English by an HR manager.
- I was interviewd in Spanish by an HR assistant that asked preatty much the same HR questions in Spanish
- I took all the tests in a row.
- I was interviewed by an Italian employee (my future supervisor) in Italian together with the Head of Trading Services (Italy, Spain, Portugal) in Italian and Spanish and another Spanish employee in the same office.
It has been the toughest interview process I have gone through. The starting salary was 35K pounds gross a year for a full-time role, that must be the reason. However actually the position is called Sales Trader but it is a customer service job in reality. You were supposed to answer IG clients calls complaining about spreads/requoting/stop loss hunting/menacing to go to a regulator and deal with them when IG trading platform had technical problems, on those occasions also place manual trades over the phone for clients.
I was rejected, the only feedback I had was that they saw me not a good fit in the team.
