I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Index.com (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2017
Interview
Got contacted by the recruiter after matching on angel.co and was first sent through a phone screen with him. We talked about my past experience and about my future aspirations and such. I was then asked to do a coding interview with an engineer that went fairly well. We went over how to implement a circular queue. Afterwards, I was invited to perform an in-person interview and was flown to SF.
The in-person interview varied in difficulty, but overall I was very pleased with the experience. There was a wide range of interesting questions that were put forward that really made me think and required tapping into both my past studies as well as experience. The only complaint I'd have is that the interview was very long and keeping focus for as long as the interview required was quite difficult. The last meeting with the CTO was quite challenging and I was a bit thrown off by the depth of some of the questions, but that was probably more due to the fact this was my first interview in many years.
At the end, I didn't receive an offer. I was told I would be called and given feedback, but I just received an email at the end. That's fine, but it would have been nice to have gotten more in depth recommendations on what I could improve. Overall, I would say the experience was positive however. The people were nice, the process was streamlined and everyone was really intelligent. If my skillset improves, I would definitely consider interviewing with them again.
