Applied in early April 2021, heard back within two weeks for an initial phone screen with the hiring manager that lasted about 30 minutes. After this, a more Zoom meeting was scheduled with the hiring manager and some section leaders. This was very informal and not technical at all.
After this meeting, I met with a recruiter to go through benefits and what I was looking for. Following this, another interview was set again with the hiring manager and a few other folks, again was fairly non-technical and mostly behavioral questions about presentation ability, how comfortable I was working in certain environments, etc. The last interview was a grouping of 2 panel interviews with technical members of the group, and this interview was HIGHLY technical, and was pretty much a question firing squad, which was a bit unexpected given the previous interviews. Most of the questions were fairly high level given the topics, but they required you to demonstrate some fundamental understanding of the topics at hand.
I had to repeat this process 3 separate times, as I was interviewing with 3 separate groups. All the groups also had different HR contacts, so the whole process was pretty confusing and seemed very disorganized. Additional groups wanted to interview me, but I declined additional interviews after I found a group that I clicked with.
After all of that, I received an offer at the end of may that I felt was a little lower than what I was looking for. I spent about a week negotiating with the recruiter/manager, and we were able to come up with a compromise on salary/sign-on bonus. In total, the process took nearly two full months.
