      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at Lane Powell

      Interview

Sent resume and had one interview with department head. Scheduling the interview was difficult and suggested their time was way more valuable than mine. Rescheduled me three times and interviewer was 20 minutes late with no apology.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

Who do you know? What clients can you take from your current firm? What client contacts can you offer?
      Answer question

      Question 2

They only seemed interested in my connections and didn’t ask me about me at all.
      Answer question

      Question 3

They also asked how many clients I would be willing to contact before and after I leave my current firm.

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Lane Powell (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2007

      Interview

Lane Powell's interview process for attorneys is fairly typical in that you meet with several lawyers over the course of the day, with meetings lasting approximately 30 minutes each. HR did provide me with the names of the attorneys with whom I was going to meet so I was able to research their practices before the interviews. Lane Powell vets their attorney candidates very carefully. I had a video-conference interview with a partner in Portland. It was a little awkward but in the end okay. Although I have experienced dozens of day-long law-firm interviews, this one was by far the most exhausting. I think the combination of a very long lunch and the addition of extra interviews at the end of a long day made it especially tiring. Also, the attorneys asked substantive questions -- something that I would ask too but admittedly don't like answering them in areas where I had little experience. The lunch experience was good because I hit it off with the lawyer but could have been difficult since only one person hosted. Good luck!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The interviewers asked substantive questions focused on the practice areas that the open position would fulfill.
