      Graphics Software Engineer Interview

      29 Jan 2025

      No offer

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Leica Microsystems (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2025

      Interview

This was one of the most saddest and pointless interviews I have every experienced in my life. Their company flew me out to Seattle to take the in office interview. In the beginning, it was just a few LC easy / med problems in which I wrote while explaining my thought process playing it safe. Easy stuff. During these questions, the main dev was asking about some problems of developing code that pertains to real life development which is the development time it takes to engineer code. Would you like to know one of the main factors in developing code? A particle paradigm called fan-out when code becomes exponentially difficult to understand because a function calls other functions and so on......what can be more complicated than THROWING THE ENTIRE CODEBASE TO AN INTERVIEWER. That is the main reason top tech companies never throw you their entire code base and ask you to find an obscure bug and fix it...... So the second portion of the interview involved opening their main application app along with the entire codebase and asked for you to find a bug that occurs on loading of a profile. So find the bug in the entire codebase and try to fix it while 3 other developers are sitting in the room silent for hours watching you fumble about. They would NEVER do this in netflix, amazon, MS, google etc.......... think to yourself why wouldn't they ?

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Given the entire codebase, 100 of thousands of lines of code, find some obscure bug by looking through the entire codebase while a bunch of bored developers are watching you wasting hours twaddle through thousands of lines of code.
