I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lightspeed (Auckland, Auckland) in Sept 2023
Interview
Initial 30 minute screener (containing one technical question, but mostly professional history). Then fit interview with leads from SRE and DX teams (probably because I wasn't sure which role would suit best, so they were quite accommodating about this and open to questions about where each team's responsibilities began and ended). Some technical content, described as the "collaboration/professional skills" interview. Quite in-depth, lots of "tell me about a time when" questions. Bringing a long memory of hard-fought experiences will help here! Then a take-home exercise, with a fairly simple API in Go and various tasks around creating a pipeline to deploy it. Target time was 2 - 4 hrs. Followed by review and questions from take-home exercise with DX lead and members of the DX team. Quite in-depth, but also collegial with opportunities for back and forth discussion. Finally, a meeting with the head of engineering and director of platform engineering. Mostly fit and cultural, but also approach/collaboration type questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
One of the conversations we had in the technical review was around the choice between having Terraform replace the AWS task definition each time a deploy went through, or ignoring it in IaC and having the CI platform manage the task definition i.e. infrastructure concerns vs runtime concerns.
