I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter based out of California, where we had an initial phone interview to discuss my interests/skills and reason for applying. She then proceeded to schedule an in person interview the next day with another director. Upon entering the 35+ person office it was apparent and immediately stood out that there was a huge lack of diversity as there were literally no one of color or inclusiveness of other races. Despite this, the interview went well and I was invited for a business professional, group interview the next week. The group interview was a panel of 5, and there were a total of about 12 candidates with me being the only person of color. The interview entailed personal descriptions of everyone, a group exercise, and to sell on a passion. The entire process was about 3.5 hours and then concluded with deliberating to decide next steps. A group interview on the 99th floor of a building didn't seem like the most effective way to analyze a candidate since the position itself had nothing to do with public speaking. If you're like myself, articulating yourself can vary with surroundings especially with nerves. We live in a society and current social climate where it seems acceptable to overlook diversity. It is clear within this company at the Chicago location that they have no desire to implement this anytime soon.
