I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Missouri State Public Defender
Interview
This is a two stage of interview. The first was optionally by phone, I chose not to drive across the state. The second stage is a private interview with the office's district defender. About a hundred people apply for each position. Generally precious interns are given a boost. They are looking for relaxed answers and honesty.
I applied through university. I interviewed at Missouri State Public Defender (Springfield, MO) in Dec 2024
Interview
I had three interviews. The first one was with the recruiter. It felt more like a conversation than an interview. The last two interviews were with me and district defenders of the two different locations. Interviews didn’t last long and they felt like conversations.

Easy job interview.....simple questions. Just have a basic familiarity with criminal defense and indigent defense as well as a passion for helping people. Also know what you are getting into. The pay is awful.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Missouri State Public Defender in Oct 2015
Interview
I submitted an online application. Then, I was given a pre-interview assignment to do. After I submitted that, an interview was scheduled. Then, the interview with the Public Defender and Assistant Public Defender. I have not gotten a result yet, but I left feeling that I do not want to work there.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked mostly behavioral questions, which was surprising because I thought they would primarily focus on criminal law questions. They asked questions like how do you handle stress, how do you manage heavy caseloads, what are your greatest strengths, etc.
