      VFX Technical Runner Interview

      4 Aug 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Outpost VFX (London, England) in Jun 2025

      Interview

3 interviews: two Teams calls and one in-office interview. The process took a month in total, starting with a call with a recruiter for the company. This was an informal chat about the role and about my experience in the field. I then was invited for another Teams call with the Head of Production, a similarly informal chat with a more detailed description of the role's responsibilities. The third and final interview was an in-person meeting with the office manager, where I received a tour of the facilities and we talked more about the role and my experience. Every meeting was quite informal and I didn't find any question to be particularly challenging. Every staff member who interviewed me was very polite and friendly. Once all candidates had finished interviewing, they did take 8 days--a day longer than they'd told me they'd hoped to get back to me by--to come back to me with a rejection. The feedback was entirely positive and they said that it ultimately came down to "the fine margins", a description so imprecise that I was admittedly a little frustrated--I really wanted the role. I think that the process taking a month for a runner role was needlessly protracted, and it contributed to my disappointment having been *so* invested in the process for an entry-level role. I ultimately also found the format and depth of the first two interviews to be identical; they could have been one interview.
