Details about the interview process were unclear. I was told to be ready for a phone interview but was not informed with whom. When I clicked on the calendar invite it actually pulled up a video call but he didn't acknowledge that he could see me. So, I'm not sure if he didn't realize that he set up a video call or if he was calling through another app, like Teams, and wasn't aware that he didn't turn off the camera.
I also wasn't given any information about the person I was going to interview with and based on my communication it seemed like I would be interviewing with someone in Accounting. We were communicating through email for a few days and discussing my background, the company, why they're bringing on more project accountants, etc... Essentially, the phone interview/screening process. However, this was not the case. My interview ended up being with an HR Coordinator and I was not made aware of this until the very end of the interview.
At the beginning of the interview he did not identify his position, only his name. I suspect that he was supposed to do a brief phone interview to screen me but due to the lack of communication, and possibly his own technical skills, we had a 1 hr interview where I asked questions about PCL's projects, their accounting processes/controls, audits, etc... which he could not really give too much insight on. And instead of stating his position when I started asking accounting questions, he just went with it. By the end I could tell that he wanted to get off the interview and happened to throw in a question about why I would like to work with PCL. I cited their growth, being employee owned, etc... but I didn't go into detail. The I asked what the next steps were and that's when he said that they had a few more interviews and would be passing resumes to the Accounting Manager.
Needless to say, I never heard back from them. They also didn't give me any information or even a rejection email. They just completely ghosted me.
