      Implementation Manager Interview

      28 Apr 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cincinnati, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Paycor (Cincinnati, OH) in Jan 2015

      Interview

All that glitters is not gold. Paycor is certainly gilded, but it is not gold. I had very high hopes going into the interview, but by the end it was the worst interviewing experience I've had in my career. Early January I was contacted after applying for the role in late December. The phone screen was positive and covered experience, salary demand, and some of the requirements of the postion; pretty standard. Two weeks later I was contacted to have the face to face interview, complete an online assessment and fill out an application. All positive experiences. Within 3 weeks from the phone screen I was in the building for inteviews with the Director and a peer manager. The interviews were positive and I was enthused about the role, people, and company. Then I heard nothing for four weeks. I eventually called the recruiter who seemed surprised I wasn't contacted previously. He apologized and said one of his staff will call me to set up the next interview series, which they did. A month after the first interviews I had two more; one with an HR Manager and another with a VP. Both interviews went well and seemed positive. I was then called back in for two more interviews with the original Director and Peer manager from Interview 1, by this point it was 2 months from the original phone screen. This was another very positive interview. I was introduced to another manager and was told there was a position that wasn't yet approved that they thought I'd be a good fit for. By this point I was very excited because there were no concerns they voiced to me, were very positive in their discussions with me and spoke at length about how much opportunity there was and how good a fit I would be. By this point, all total I had inteviewed for over 8 hours with Paycor. Then silence. At first I assumed it was the normal delays that come from staffing. After 4 weeks of silence though, I emailed the recruiter to check on the status. He never responded. So I emailed the director. She never responded. I then called the recruiter, but he never returned my call. I was concerned I'd be construed as annoying, but after two months of silence, I really felt concerned that maybe I'd been forgotten. And I need to mention that despite many opportunities, no one would even acknowledge that I had reached out to them for an update. Finally, 4 months after the initial contact, I received an email from the recruiter that said "There are decisions being made, we'll be in contact shortly." Three days later I received an impersonal, canned email saying "Thanks but we've gone another direction." No call or personalized email, no feedback, no reasoning, after spending multiple visits and hours on interviewing. I sent an email to all the folks I interviewed with and thanked them for the opportunity. I asked if they could provide me some feedback regarding the process and my own performance. None of them have either acknowledged the message or provided said feedback. By the end, I was just surprised that a company that markets itself as providing HR Solutions, cannot seem to figure out one of the most basic facets of HR, recruiting and hiring. It's a shame because I feel they are an exciting company with a lot of potential but they seem to be growing much too fast to be able to handle, and that normally results in major problems down the road. In this interview experience, at best they were unprofessional, at worst, fairly inept and confused. I take it as a blessing however, because if this is the best face they can put on for an outside potential recruit, how messy must it be internally? I would not seek future opportunities with this company and regret the amount of time and effort I allocated to the prospect to eventually not even receive a personalized rejection.
