I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Payless ShoeSource (Las Vegas, NV) in Apr 2015
Interview
I submitted an application and after I already had forgotten about it, I got a call back. The first interview was typical questions. They rated my responses 1-5 on a sheet of paper. After that, they made me do a mock sale. I had to sell a random pair of shoes to the lady who was interviewing me. They said they would call me back if they were interested, and then I had a second interview. The second interview is where I met the district leader, and they explained what my job duties would be, etc, and made sure I was still interested. I said yes, and they said they would let me know. However, I had another job offer waiting so I told them about it, and they went ahead and hired me on the spot. They also offered to match what the other job was paying me, which was $8.50. Normally they just pay what minimum wage is here, which is $8.25.

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Payless ShoeSource (New York, NY)
Interview
Applied online, called within 2-3 days to follow up. I did receive a call back to schedule an interview with the store manager, after that I had to schedule and interview with the District manager (Store manager called me back after the interview to schedule it) fairly long process for such a basic position. Store manager asked me retail related questions such as "tell me about a difficult customer" "sale me this shoe and a accessory". Interview with the District Manager was more of a conversation, we talked about store goal such as sales and what my job really is as a sales associate.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Payless ShoeSource (Ontario, CA)
Interview
Fairly typical interview process, they call and set up an available time with you. They do not do group interviews. They ask fairly typical questions pertaining to retail, no questions stand out.
I applied online. I interviewed at Payless ShoeSource in Nov 2016
Interview
The interview was very to the point, your typical interview for a retail position. Asking about experience, whether youre good at sales, good with people. The manager seemed really nice, was very outgoing and friendly.
