      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at PetSmart (Canoga Park, CA) in Jan 2026

      Interview

I applied for Petsmart on Victory Blvd in Canoga Park, CA for retail sales associate but when I showed up to the interview with the Hiring Manager, the position was actually for Petshotel and the person that interviewed me said it would be mostly be dealing with dogs. Even though I had applied for retail sales associate, I would have still taken a job at the Petshotel without any hesitation. The interview was January 29 and she said she "had a few more candidates to interview" but will get back to me. Today is February 20 and I have heard nothing. A week and a half after the interview, I even contacted the store for updates. A male employee said the manager wasn't there, but he supposedly took down my information and said the manager will be back on Thursday. Petsmart will ghost people that they think aren't good enough. These were the questions I was asked from my memory ""Can you tell me about yourself?" "Why do you want to work at PetSmart?" "Do you have any pets?" "Are you comfortable getting dirty?" "Are you comfortable being around dogs of different sizes?" "Do you have any questions for me". I answered the questions honestly but that doesn't matter to them. Imagine you're a recruiter that wants "Strong written and verbal communication skills" as a qualification but when someone shows up for the interview, answers your questions, you as a job recruiter are unable to give "Strong written and verbal communication skills" in return. I might be slightly slow because of my TBI from when I was hit by a car at 10 years old, but I'm still a better communicator than you. As someone that used to love shopping at Petsmart, I will not shop or support this particular Petsmart location due to lack of professionalism. I was also interviewed by Pet Food Express and got rejected, but guess what—they sent an actual email notifying me I was rejected. That's true professionalism right there. I only visited Pet Food Express one time (the day before the interview), but I would much rather shop at a place that gets back to you after not passing the interview than a company that ghosts you. I'll try to be sympathetic with you, Hiring Manager. Don't want you to have a heart attack from lifting your finger. 300 lbs is a lot to carry on a human skeleton.
