      Fast Track Engineer Interview

      22 Oct 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Santa Barbara, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at QAD (Santa Barbara, CA) in Oct 2015

      Interview

Met at university career fair. Had a pretty good talk with the guy--telling me about how they switched to Agile from waterfall and how much it has helped them and all that. I was really interested... until I got a phone call about the position. They want you to spend a year rotating from R&D to Support to Services. And for that year they only pay you 40k. After the program is finished they put you at around 60k -- still below market rate for a software engineer. If you want to be a software engineer that is paid at around market rate, don't apply to the fast track program. They are looking for kids who just want to secure a job offer right away. Despite all this I do appreciate them being upfront about what the position entailed and the pay.

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at QAD

      Interview

Met with a representative at a career fair for my university. After handing him my resume, I received email contact about a week later asking me if I was interested in the job. The first phone call was simply a screening: Company and position overview; How did I hear about QAD? Why would I be a good fit for the position? Salary? Location? Describe self in three words? About a week later after the screening, I was to take a simple personality and logic test, conducted over email and through a website. Shortly after I was contacted to speak to a group of managers over a conference call. I was asked to describe myself, my projects, and my academic experience. Each of the managers took turns asking me various questions, nearly all of which were behavioral. There was a lot of emphasis on describing my projects. After about a week, I was extended an offer.

      Question 1

Nothing out of the ordinary. There is not much to stump you, they really are interested in gauging your personality and fit via behavioral questions, rather than technical ones.
