      Assistant Store Leader Interview

      9 Mar 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Roseland, NJ
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at QuickChek (Roseland, NJ) in Mar 2013

      Interview

First, I received a phone call to set up and interview for Assistant Store Leader, which they have listed as a position you can apply for specifically (as well as others) on their website. That fact will be important later. I gladly took the interview which I had to drive 30 minutes away to do. The interview was very lengthy, almost an hour and a half in length with the standard questions every job asks (ex.: What are your best qualities?). I was asked to then come back several days later for a second interview. I went back several days later for the interview, again driving another 30 minutes. When I got there, the interviewer I was told was going to be an hour late and that they forgot to call me. How professional. Since the interviewer was not there, I interviewed with the store manager there for the follow-up interview. He proceeded to ask me the same exact questions as the first interviewer. Nice thought process there. Then the lady I was supposed to interview with finally showed up and instead of foregoing her because I had this other guy interview me, I had to wait for her to conduct a third interview! And if you guessed she asked the same exact questions for a third time, you would be correct! After another hour and a half of hearing the same questions again, the third interviewer told me how I would be offered the job, however, "Quick Chek does not hire people as managers, Quick Chek only hires part-time $9/hr help that has the opportunity to work up in the company." What?!?! Now this relays back to the opening paragraph. Why advertise a position or positions on your company's website if you don't actually hire anyone for that? This was like the false advertising of a job interview process. Totally deceived and the reasoning behind this was also ludicrous. They said they don't hire people as managers because "you need experience in everything so you need to start as a part-timer and learn." I guess they never heard of management training in this company. And it's not like I didn't have management experience elsewhere or they are building rocket ships or something. I'm pretty sure ringing a register, mopping up a floor and making sandwiches are not worthy of a near 5 hour, 3 interview process. Totally ridiculous and unprofessional!

      Question 1

None, but you will be asked the same thing three times. Literally.
