I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Realtor.com (Vancouver, BC) in Dec 2019
Interview
Phone screening with the company's recruiter, phone screening with technical team lead, 3 hrs interview with the team. The most skillful person during my interview was the technical team lead, experienced, very knowledgeable and respectful engineer, we had a discussion for a bout an hour about some architecture and design patterns related to data processing and events in a scalable distributed systems, we also discussed some techniques related to message queues.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The second part of the interview was for about an hour and a half with 2 engineers from the team, they asked me to explain one of the projects I was working on and then asked me solve an algorithm problem, the interviewers lacked basic soft skills and communications which made the hour and half I spent with them a bit awkward, In addition to that, I doubt they spent enough time to read on my resume which is not a good sign for the team competency.
The final part of the interview was with 2 senior engineers, they asked me to design a platform for sharing and uploading media such as audio and video, some features such as searching. We also discussed the gap theorem and the non functional challenges in such systems like scalability, availability ...etc We spent about 90 minutes with designing and discussing it. Unfortunately, one of these engineers was a bit arrogant which made the discussion uncomfortable at some points.
