I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Russian Tea Room (New York, NY)
Interview
Walked into a building that was separate from the restaurant into an office. The interview started late and was over quickly, perhaps they saw that I wasn't a fit but didn't feel warm. The whole experience felt old school.
Asked the standard questions about my availability, why I want to leave current job and work there, size of current wine list, average price of bottles sold, etc.
Honestly it was terrible, was made to wait for 45 minutes after my interview time and was treated as disposable from the moment I walked in . They had me create a mock interview post for the restaurant which they kept online without crediting me. I felt very uncomfortable.
The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Russian Tea Room in Aug 2019
Interview
I applied and within that week I received an email to come in for an interview.
This was probably the worst interview I’ve ever attended. For starters the interviewer was wearing a T-shirt dress and a tribal print cardigan? She looked like she just woke up? This is who you have representing your brand and bringing on new hires? Okay.
Secondly, her hair was pink? With horrible black roots showing! It’s so radical that black women literally had to have laws made to not be discriminated against hair wise and you have her as an example of makes America great *yeah right*
Lastly, I’ve done events for names bigger than the Russian tea room and she had the nerve to say that doing events for brands and restaurants are two different things. YEAH, at a restaurant it’s a set menu, set floor plan, set prices. Learn that and your golden.
All in all you can clearly tell I intimidated her and I could do her job and the one I was interviewing for. Truly a waste of time because why have me come in if you want down the bat restaurant experience?
*I was previously a server but I guess that and my Penn State degree weren’t enough*
Jokes. I also told her that I respect her opinion but I was no longer interested in her or the job.
